The second phase of the Chelsea on Main apartments in Green Point has just been launched, injecting an investment of R450 million into this increasingly desirable and well-located Cape Town suburb.

Priced from R2.45 million, Chelsea on Main offers a combination of one, two and three bedroom apartments with three penthouse suites on the top 7th floor. With panoramic north-facing views, the apartment block features 31 new units, each with its own private terrace and secure underground parking with direct lift access.

This is according to John Rabie, founder of Signatura, who says the development is a joint venture by Signatura and GAIN property consultants and developers.

With panoramic north-facing views, the apartment block features 31 new units, each with its own private terrace and secure underground parking with direct lift access.

A highlight is a spacious 105sqm third floor two bedroom apartment which boasts an enormous wraparound 108sqm landscaped terrace that doubles the overall living space.

“When Phase 1 was launched in November 2013, over 90% of the apartments sold in the first week,” says Rabie.

“We are confident of another good take-up as this is a stylish, energy-efficient building with the very best of Cape Town on its doorstep.”

Adding further investment value, he says an independent five star Mantis Group hotel, The One on Main, is being planned alongside the Chelsea development.

Scheduled for occupation in July 2017, Chelsea on Main will offer residents the option of enjoying Green Point’s unique cosmopolitan buzz while being able to retreat to private quiet apartments fitted with double window glazing to ensure tranquility and relaxation.

Ari Efstathiou of GAIN says their vision for Chelsea on Main had been to develop a local interpretation of global trends: inner-city convenience combined with a laid-back, easy-going vibe in a highly desirable location.

“People today don’t want to live far from exciting shops, top restaurants and other work and leisure options. Mixed-use precincts are livelier and more desirable to many buyers, especially those who want to cut down on long commutes,” he says.

“Green Point has almost a ‘village feel’ found in the boroughs of London and New York City.”

Acknowledged as one of the top five green miles in the world in the annual Knight Frankproperty report, Efstathiou  says Green Point’s neighbourhood appeal comes from convenient MyCiti stops, an easy work commute from the city centre, and ready access to popular local attractions such as the Green Point Urban Park, Virgin Active gym, golf course and the Sea Pointpromenade.

Situated on Green Point’s Main Road on the site of the former White House, the block will be linked to the first phase of 38 apartments via the basement, with access from Vesperdene Road. Mixed-use retail lifestyle space is planned for the ground floor.

Designed by the top team of Arthur Quinton Darryl Croome Architects, the project offers the same attention to detail as all other Signatura developments, he says.

Environmentally beneficial features include energy-efficient low level lights, a centralised heating system for the entire block and double window glazing on all Main Road-facing apartments.

All apartments have terraces, pergolas and shutters, while the top floor is accentuated by exterior “fins” to diffuse the light and provide eco-friendly temperature control during Cape Town’s hot summers.
