Incorporate 2016 Colour Of the Year Into Your Dcor
For the first time ever, Pantone has chosen two shades to represent its Pantone Colour of the Year for 2016.
Let these tints add to your home's interior. Use them as an accent or sub-dominant colour in a more neutral scheme.
According to them, Rose Quartz, a soft shade of pink, is a persuasive yet gentle tone which conveys compassion and a sense of composure. Serenity is weightless and airy, like an expansion of the blue sky above us, bringing feelings of relief and relaxation even in troubled times.
Liza Watermeyer, Tile Africa’s Retail and Display Coordinator, says she’s excited about incorporating these colours into décor environments as the visual contrast between these two hues will create a balanced and harmonious look in any room. She says this is due to the fact that they gently blend into one another on the colour wheel and both represent warm and cool tones.
Liza shares tips on how to incorporate these colours into your home…
The right combination
Giving your bathroom an updated look that incorporates these colours is fairly easy. Accessorise with towels, a bathroom mat, soaps and candles in one or even both of these hues.
Let these tints add to your home's interior. Use them as an accent or sub-dominant colour in a more neutral scheme. Pairing Rose Quartz and Serenity with white will result in a fresh, modern look, whereas combining matt finishes with natural wood, stone, taupe or green, will give you a laid back, natural feel.
If its luxury and drama you’re after, consider using a brighter hue along with these lighter tones in shiny, reflective surfaces. Or, add silver or gold in the form of a mirror to finish off the look.
In the bathroom
Giving your bathroom an updated look that incorporates these colours is fairly easy. Accessorise with towels, a bathroom mat, soaps and candles in one or even both of these hues.
Add a freestanding table or wall-mounted shelf painted in a lighter tone to hold all those bathing essentials. Complete the look by adding a potted plant in a container that mimics your chosen colours.
In the bedroom
Add a soft, dreamy throw in either Rose Quartz or Serenity at the end of the bed.
Combine texture, light wood or metal furniture in a matt patina and use any one of these colours for selected objects, occasional chairs and artwork.
Trim neutral curtains in a matching hue and coordinate with pillows on an upholstered daybed or chaise in an analogous shade. Silk, linen and mohair look especially good in these gentle, relaxing tones.
In the kitchen and living areas
Today many appliances come in these beautiful colours, so why not consider combining them with matching crockery on open shelves in the kitchen.
Use frames in these hues on a white wall for black and white etchings or sketches. Combine texture, light wood or metal furniture in a matt patina and use any one of these colours for selected objects, occasional chairs and artwork.
